an Italian national who came to serve in Thailand during the reign of His Majesty King Vajiravudh (Rama VI).

On 12 October B.E. 2486 (1943)

the institution was officially elevated to the status of Silpakorn University
and its first faculty, the Faculty of Painting and Sculpture, was established.

At present, this faculty is known as the Faculty of Painting Sculpture and Graphic Arts

B.E. 2498 (1955)

The Faculty of Thai Architecture (now the Faculty of Architecture) and the Faculty of Archaeology were established.

B.E. 2499 (1956)

The Faculty of Decorative Arts was established.

B.E. 2509 (1966)

Silpakorn University adopted a policy to expand and diversify its faculties and academic programs. However, due to limited space at the Wang Tha Phra Campus, which could not be further expanded, the University extended its educational area to the Sanam Chandra Palace Campus in Nakhon Pathom Province.

B.E. 2511 (1968)

The Faculty of Arts was established.

B.E. 2541 (1998)

The Faculty of Music was established to enhance and broaden the University’s artistic disciplines, making them more diverse and comprehensive.

Emblem of Silpakorn University

The emblem of Silpakorn University is Phra Phikanet (Ganesha), the deity of success and also the god of arts, sciences, and literary composition. The upper right hand holds a trident, the lower right hand holds an elephant tusk, the upper left hand holds a pāśa (rope), and the lower left hand holds a water vessel. Ganesha is seated upon a cloud throne adorned with traditional Thai kanok motifs, with the inscription “Silpakorn University” displayed beneath. This emblem was officially adopted in July B.E. 2494 (1951). Later, when the University’s status was changed to an autonomous public university, Silpakorn University officially announced the use of a new emblem, replacing the Garuda emblem, for use on official documents such as sealed letters, internal memoranda, orders, and official announcements. The new emblem came into effect on 24 August B.E. 2559 (2016)
