ภาควิชาประวัติศาสตร์ศิลปะ คณะโบราณคดี มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร ร่วมกับ หอศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร และฝ่ายศิลปวัฒนธรรม จัดการบรรยายในหัวข้อ “Artist, Archive, Artefact: Southeast Asian Contemporary Artists’ Contemplations of the Past” (ศิลปิน-จดหมายเหตุ-วัตถุ: การครุ่นคิดถึงอดีตของศิลปินร่วมสมัยในเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้)

การบรรยายครั้งนี้ได้รับเกียรติจากวิทยากรระดับนานาชาติ ศ.ดร. นอรา แอนส์ลีย์ เทย์เลอร์ (Nora Annesley Taylor) ศาสตราจารย์ตำแหน่ง Alsdorf ด้านศิลปะเอเชียใต้และเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ จาก School of the Art Institute of Chicago สหรัฐอเมริกา ผู้คร่ำหวอดและมีผลงานวิชาการเป็นที่ยอมรับในระดับสากล

ศ.ดร. เทย์เลอร์ พาทุกท่านไปสำรวจปรากฏการณ์น่าจับตา เมื่อศิลปินร่วมสมัยในภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ไม่ว่าจะเป็น ดั๊ญ โว (Danh Vo), เฮือง โง (Hương Ngô), ลู ซีฮาน (Loo Zihan) หรือ โกะ เหงียง ฮาว (Koh Nguang How) เลือกที่จะหยิบ “เอกสารจดหมายเหตุ” มาใช้เป็นวัตถุดิบในการสร้างสรรค์ผลงาน แต่ไม่ใช่ในฐานะการทำงานวิจัยเชิงวิชาการ หากคือการแปรสภาพเอกสารเหล่านั้นให้กลายเป็นงานศิลปะที่เปี่ยมด้วยการแสดงออก (Performative) และสื่อสารอารมณ์ (Affective) เพื่อรังสรรค์ประวัติศาสตร์นิพนธ์รูปแบบใหม่ขึ้นมา

ในยุคที่ประวัติศาสตร์ของภูมิภาคเรามักดำรงอยู่อย่างกระจัดกระจาย หรือถูกครอบงำด้วยอคติทางอุดมการณ์ การที่ศิลปินลุกขึ้นมา “เล่าเรื่อง” ผ่านวัตถุทางประวัติศาสตร์ด้วยตัวเองนั้น กำลังบอกอะไรกับเรา? และเหตุใด “บทเรียนจากประวัติศาสตร์” ที่พวกเขานำเสนอ จึงยังคงเป็นสิ่งจำเป็นอย่างยิ่งยวดในโลกปัจจุบัน

Department of Art History, Faculty of Archaeology, Silpakorn University, in collaboration with the Silpakorn University Art Gallery and the Arts & Culture Division, organized a lecture titled “Artist, Archive, Artefact: Southeast Asian Contemporary Artists’ Contemplations of the Past.”

The lecture featured an esteemed international speaker, Professor Dr. Nora Annesley Taylor, the Alsdorf Chair in South and Southeast Asian Art at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, USA. A distinguished scholar with internationally recognized work, Professor Taylor guided the audience in exploring a fascinating phenomenon: contemporary artists in Southeast Asia, such as Danh Vo, Hương Ngô, Loo Zihan, and Koh Nguang How, are choosing to utilize archival documents as raw material in creating their art. Rather than conducting academic research, they transform these documents into artworks rich with performative expression and affective communication, thereby reimagining history in a new narrative form.

In an era where our region’s histories often remain fragmented or are dominated by ideological biases, what is the message when artists take it upon themselves to “tell the story” through historical objects? And why do the “lessons of history” that they present continue to be of critical importance in the contemporary world?

The event will take place on Thursday, 24 July 2025 , from 13:30 to 16:00, at Room 305, Auditorium Building (Hub 1), Silpakorn University, Wang Tha Phra Campus.
